IS It Morning? 🌅
“IS it morning?” I always want to ask that at the onset of Daylight Saving Time. The switch comes just when I’m starting to feel like I’m getting up in the morning; and it certainly throws off my sense of, well, time.
It didn’t help that today I got up earlier than usual. I wanted to make a trip to Winn Dixie before traffic really began to build up. It’s Monday; and that means people trying to get to work; get the kids to school, etcetera.
Between the time switch and heavy overcast, it was barely starting to get light when I headed out. There was one good thing about the near-darkness — I heard an owl! But that added to the query, IS it morning? I prefer it when morning looks like morning!
Dark mornings might look like a good reason for backing off of training; but really, I don’t need to worry about riding before sunup any more.
Backing Off ⏮️
But all the same, I’m backing off a little this week. No matter how enthusiastic you are about training, don’t forget to allow yourself recovery time! I had considered taking a short, easy ride to the farmer’s market tomorrow; but maybe I’ll skip even that.
I won’t be asking, IS it morning, when I get up early to go to the market. I think I could do with some extra sleep; and not riding means more time to experiment with my massage balls!
Backing off every few weeks is a safeguard against burnout; and it lets you do things that might not get done when you’re busy training!

ABOUT ME
I began this website primarily as a way to present the story of how I accomplished a century ride on an adult tricycle. Other riders of adult trikes might want to know whether it’s possible. It sure is! You can read all about it in My Story.
I live in New Orleans; and retired in January 2023. More time for cycling!
