No Leg Warmers Yet🦵🏼
No leg warmers yet, even though it’s the end of September. Although the weather is a bit cooler, it doesn’t really feel like Fall. That might not happen for several weeks; and even when it does, the heat might make a fierce comeback! As a matter of fact, we’re expecting highs in the 80s for the next few days! So that means, no leg warmers yet; and still lots of sunblock.
Aside from relief from the heat, we could do with a cold front to push tropical activity away. Lacking that, we’ve got to keep our eyes on that new system. If it keeps its current drift towards the NW, we’re not in its direct path; but until I know what it’s expected to do, I guess I have to stick to cramming; and get in my miles before another round of severe weather!
Fall Plans 🗓️
What about Fall plans, especially once the threat of hurricanes is past? I don’t have to worry about going back to school, thank goodness; but the days are ticking away towards the year’s end. I’m still working at making 70K miles (long-term) by December 31; and RAGBRAI is still on my mind.
Today I extended my Sunday ride to 24 miles; and this week I want to do some simulated hill work. I sure need that if I want to ride across Iowa!
How do I manage fake hills? Get into a gear that feel really hard; and push it for a while. Start with short efforts; there’s no point in ruining my knees! Bit by bit, make the efforts longer. The hardest part, I think, will be easing up enough between efforts!
