Vain Effort?

\"vainVain effort is what it feels like when I ride to the salvage store, and they don\’t have the very things that I most wanted.

Today I took the trailer, so I could carry my cooler. I wanted to get some frozen vegetables. I had a headwind on the way there, in addition to the drag caused by the trailer.

I didn\’t see any frozen veggies in the spot where I\’d seen them on previous visits to the store. Maybe they simply didn\’t have any today? As I\’ve  observed before, the salvage store\’s merchandise is unpredictable. I\’ll have to use canned veggies; but I really need a lot more fresh ones!

Today the make-your-own-grab-bag bins just didn\’t seem to be there, which was a big disappointment. True, I have enough grab-bag stuff left to provide me with snacks for another week or so; but I\’m disappointed all the same. I\’ve become very spoiled by being able to buy snacks for 12-12 cents apiece.

The salvage store has some spices, and today I looked for white peppercorns. Whole Foods didn\’t have any in their bulk bins when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

It\’s a good thing I went to the store early. The wind seems to be picking up; but it\’s supposed to calm down overnight. That\’s a good thing. I don\’t want tomorrow\’s shot at 20 miles to turn into vain effort.
