The Ride! 🚲
RAGBRAI means rolling past cornfields; and hearing the wind among the stalks. I liked the sound; although not the headwinds responsible for that effect! RAGBRAI means watching the clouds; hoping it won’t rain. It means keeping cool — well, trying to catch a break from the late-July heat.
It means tent cities; ample chances to try new foods; and, of course, 𝚷. Or pi … or pie …
Now, let’s do a fast-forward to Saturday, July 18, 2025: RAGBRAI Day Zero! I had flown up to Omaha the previous day; and on Day Zero I took the Pork Belly shuttle to Orange City.
We who use Pork Belly’s services have the COB to help us find our way around. Where are the showers? Where’s the food? The tents?
Day Two of RAGBRAI 2025 saw a first: the route went out of Iowa, for a brief excursion into Minnesota. No time to count lakes, though!
A piggy-wig? I thought a little pig to mark my charging cubby was a cute idea — I was with Pork Belly, after all! A visual marker also made it easier for me to locate my cubby the next morning.
Start watching videos about RAGBRAI; and soon enough you’ll hear KYBOs mentioned. And a must-do for first-timers is to p** in a cornfield!
RAGBRAI means lines! I don’t only mean pace lines. Lines for food; for the showers; for pi … pie … whatever it is!
A big feature of RAGBRAI is slip ‘n slides! I never tried one; although they look like lots of fun, at my age, I’m not so sure they’re a wise idea.
Prospective RAGBRAI riders, be cautioned: Bring! Cash! And bring more than you think you’ll need. Cash Is King!
There are so many little things along the RAGBRAI route! As the post-RAGBRAI days went on, I kept thinking of more of those details.
To sum it all up, RAGBRAI 2025 sure had some rough edges: headwinds! Mechanical problems! A flooded tent! But it was fun, too. Can I start to think of RAGBRAI 2027?
