IMHO, a good helmet is a must. After all, none of us wants to end up looking like this: 🤕 One cycling book that I used to have mentioned a rider who was merely standing over his bicycle, waiting for a red light to change. He lost his balance and fell; and incurred a fatal injury when his un-helmeted head struck the curb. With such a story in mind, I don’t dare to ride without my helmet! If I start out and realize I’ve forgotten it, I go right back home to get it.
Such headgear is available even for very young children. They can wear these helmets as passengers before they take their first steps towards independent riding.
A helmet using the MIPS system is a good idea. MIPS provides protection against both direct and rotational impacts.
What color? That, of course, is a matter of personal preference; although light/bright colors are more visible. We’re always hearing about how important visibility is to cyclists!
