I’ve never been a major fan of shoes. I grew up running around barefoot; and I still go barefoot at home, unless it’s cold. Then I wear socks!
Riding my bicycle barefooted could be downright painful; especially the road bike. The SPD pedals that I have on my road bike are toothed on the non-clip in side. I sure need shoes to protect my feet against those teeth!
There are also “roadie” shoes, with stiff soles to better transfer your leg action into forward motion. They’re too slippery for me, though — it’s like trying to walk on ice!
