Nowadays, in 2024, electric bikes are becoming more common. I don’t think I ever heard of them before 2022; and the first time one went buzzing past me, I was quite astonished. My knee-jerk reaction was, “You call that a BIKE?” After I read about e-bikes, though, I changed my tune.
An e-bike might be the only way some people can continue to ride; for example, older riders with knee problems. The electric power is meant to assist pedaling rather than replace it; and it comes in handy when there are repeated hills to climb.
Electric bikes don’t come cheap; in fact, they can cost upwards of $10K! Not everyone can manage a price tag like that. Then there’s the problem of charging the battery; and even more, how to dispose of said battery once it’s worn out.
But I might need an e-bike myself one day. I guess I should be glad they’re out there.
