Seen and Heard Tandem 2️⃣

Have you seen and heard tandem? Do you want to have a riding partner; but your abilities are very different? Want to be sure you don’t get separated while riding? How about a bicycle built for two? Each rider can pedal at his or her own ability; but you’ll still be together. But I’ve no doubt that riding a tandem takes some getting used to!
There’s a tandem-riding couple that I see quite often in my area, and it sure looks like fun. I’ve never had the opportunity to try riding tandem; but it seems to me that tandem riders need to build a good deal of trust in each other. The captain needs to be able to rely on the stoker not to coast along for a free ride. The stoker must be able to rely on the captain to warn of road hazards; the need to change direction and/or speed; when to slow or stop. The two riders need to agree upon which foot to use for starting; and which foot to put down when stopping. I’m sure it’s very awkward when one rider is a right-foot starter; and the other a left-foot starter.
Which position would I prefer to ride? Good question. Being small for an adult, I might not make much of a wind-breaker as captain. By the same token, would I be able to provide sufficient power as stoker? So, although I’ve seen and heard tandem, I’m not sure I’m up to trying it!
